AUTHOR. FREELANCE WRITER. ADVOCATE.
Hey, I’m Erin. Thanks for stopping by! I’m a freelance writer and book author. I write about animals, conservation, nature, health, and travel.
I’m a frequent contributor to the Washington Post, and my stories appear in outlets across the United States, from the Philadelphia Inquirer to the San Francisco Chronicle. My writing and photography are also published around the world, including in New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and other countries. I’ve written one book and contributed to two others.
Reviewers such as Publishers Weekly and Booklist have called my writing “tough but fair minded,” “jaw dropping,” “well organized,” and “thought provoking.”
My writing often draws on my career-spanning commitment to the nonprofit sector. I’ve served in leadership and communications at some of the United States’ most influential organizations — helping to drive advancements for farm animals, national parks, climate, wilderness, ocean conservation, and public health. I’ve also run an animal shelter and rehabilitated wildlife.
I have a masters in writing from Johns Hopkins University; a masters in nonprofit administration from University of San Francisco; and a bachelors in environmental science, policy, and management from University of California, Berkeley.
When I’m not working, I’m hiking, paddling, mountain biking, reading, teaching yoga, or adventuring. I’ve lived all over the United States and am currently based in Oregon. Favorite places include New Zealand, Iceland, the Galapagos, Patagonia, and the Sierras — or wherever my tent is pitched.
I consult on strategic communications and philanthropic projects for select nonprofit clients. If you think we might work well together, find more information here!
